What is the view that Lewis calls “Christianity-and-water” (p. 40) and why does Lewis reject a “simple” Christianity? Evaluate his argument.

Lewis says “Christianity agrees with Dualism that this universe is at war” (p. 45) and that this world is “Enemy-occupied territory” (p. 46). Do you see evidence of this in today’s world?

What is Lewis’s argument against someone who would say “I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God” (p. 52)? Evaluate his argument.

Lewis says “The central Christian belief is that Christ’s death has somehow put us to right with God and given us a fresh start” and although there are different theories about how this works, “what all Christians are agreed on is that it does work” (p. 54). Is Lewis right that “Any theories we build up as to how Christ’s death did all this are…quite secondary” (pgs. 55-56)?

How does Lewis deal with the “unfairness” that “this new life should be confined to people who have heard of Christ and been able to believe in Him” (p. 64)? Evaluate his argument.
